This detailed ultrasound scan checks the position and physical development of your baby, although it cannot pick up every condition. A level II Anomaly scan looks in greater detail at the different parts of your baby’s body. Generally, we will examine the baby’s whole body, including the brain, heart, and other organs. The umbilical cord and amniotic fluid levels will also be checked.

How is the anomaly scan performed?

The anomaly scan is performed trans-abdominally which means over the tummy.

Why do I need to have the anomaly scan?
